Independent student learning: perspectives and experiences

The HEA (Higher Education Academy) has advertised a tender for a piece of research that:

“explores students’ perspectives of independent learning.

The aims of this research project are:

  • to explore students’ conceptions and experiences of directed independent learning, including how they were made aware of its role in higher education, how they were prepared for it within the context of their discipline, and how they have approached it;
  • to disseminate the findings in order to assist disciplines in developing or reinforcing effective practice.”

The theme lends itself to exploring the range of perspectives of our diverse student body in their varied disciplinary contexts.
