Research seminars and Strategic networks competition 2015/16
Funding is available for UK research organisations to hold Research seminars and Strategic networks for groups of academic researchers, postgraduate students and non-academic users from different organisations. Seminar groups meet regularly to exchange information and ideas with the aim of advancing research within their fields. Strategic networks are a new addition to this annual competition and will have a central aim of generating and developing innovative and interdisciplinary collaborations focused on potential new priority areas.
The Strategic networks will build collaborative systems and groups through a wider range of activities than seminars. They reflect the core aims set out in the ESRC’s Strategic Plan to promote innovation, risk-taking and multidisciplinary collaboration. Where appropriate, seminar and network group members should be drawn from the public, commercial private and civil society sectors as well as from research organisations.
Although we are committed to the open nature of the seminar competition, at the same time we are introducing a number of steers in this round of the competition which are focused on:
- Civil Society
- Education and Neuroscience
- Biosocial research
- Big data.
Seminar proposals are encouraged to address one steer topic area. Strategic network proposals are required to address one of the areas.
Seminar series and network grants don’t fund staff time or overheads but cover 100% of the event costs such as travel. Seminar series grants are limited to a maximum justified costing of £30,000 and network grants are limited to a maximum justified costing of £100,000.
