The Natural Environment Research Council invites applications for its follow-on fund pathfinder grants. These help researchers undertake the preliminary work required to apply for a follow-on grant. Pathfinder awards are designed to help researchers fill knowledge gaps via activities such as market assessment and competitor analyses, intellectual property searches searches, engaging with potential commercial collaborators and end-users, and milestone 1 technical work where the technical feasibility of the whole project depends on it. All projects must have demonstrable economic potential and likely to deliver some form of societal or environmental benefit.
The fund is open to researchers with current or past NERC funding.
Grants are usually between £7,000 and £10,000 but in exceptional circumstances may be worth up to £20,000.
There is no closing date for this scheme; applications should be submitted at any time via the Je-S system.
