This is a two-day interactive strategic workshop with the ultimate aim of funding up to six multidisciplinary research translation projects funded to a value of £200,000 each. Projects developed during the sandpit must fall within the scope of SARIC including the following two key challenges:
•resilient and robust crop and livestock production systems;
•predictive capabilities for sustainable agriculture.

This aims to advance understanding of the sustainability of food systems and explore innovative solutions, facilitate the emergence of new and high-impact research activities, and generate a leverage effect that encourages new collaboration between different types of disciplines with a specific focus on combining natural and social sciences.
