The purpose of this research, issued by Transport for London, is to assemble an objective evidence base to facilitate informed debate between policy makers, road network operators and design practitioners on road sign lighting. The evidence base will be of sufficient quality and scope to ensure that at the conclusion of such debates, decision-makers will be able to assess whether: taxpayers receive a value for money road sign lighting asset; road users safety is optimised within the constraints of network operators budgets and; roadworkers are not exposed to a level of risk which is disproportionate to the accident risk reduction for the road user.
