Development of a Health Literacy Environmental Assessment

Stoke-on-Trent City Council wish to develop, pilot and implement a model for carrying out Heath Literacy Environmental Assessments . Health literacy includes a provider’s capacity to communicate clearly, educate about health, and empower his or her patients, customers or service users. The HLEA will need to take the following into account: the location in which they typically interact with their patients, customers or service users; the materials (written, electronic, signage etc) that they use to communicate with their patients, customers or service users; the way in which employees of providers of health and wellbeing services interact with their patients, customers or service users (i.e. their behaviour); and, the policies and procedures, including an approach to continuous improvement , established by the service provider.
