Breast Cancer Now: Project Grants Now Open

The first round of Breast Cancer Now Project Grants are open for applications. Project grants are aimed at established researchers who have a strong track record in their field, and who want to work in one of the charities priority areas. They are also committed to supporting new investigators in breast cancer research and encourage applications from talented researchers at the start of their independent career.

Award Amount: Up to £230,000

Duration: One to Three years

Deadline: Tuesday 3rd March 2020

The aim of project grants is to support scientific excellence and innovative research into breast cancer including improvements in; prevention, detection and treatment of all forms of breast cancer, welcoming applications from all disciplines.

It is expected that the awards will enrich scientific understanding and expertise in breast cancer research with the grants committee assessing applications based on the research plan, clear relevance to breast cancer research and the perceived outcomes that will lead to significant advance in understanding breast cancer and it’s impact.

These aim to encourage and further medical research in a variety of subject areas, ranging from rheumatism and arthritis to cardiovascular disease, cancer and neurological disorders.

Sarcoma UK Research Grant

These support research in bone and soft tissue cancers. Research should be clinically focused and should benefit the patients during their diagnosis, treatment and care.

Medieval Settlement Research Group Research Grants

These support research projects within the group’s field of interest. Preference is given to field surveys, documentary research and preparation of graphics rather than excavation and the preparation of reports for publication.

Cancer Research UK funding scheme: Pioneer Award

The Pioneer Award will fund research into truly innovative, ground-breaking ideas with the potential to lead to new discoveries or approaches that will help us better understand, prevent, diagnose or treat cancer.

Projects supported by the Pioneer Award will have a clear relevance to cancer and enable the exploration of novel ideas, which may lead to new discoveries or approaches. Awards will be made to the value of up to £200,000 over two years.

Applications to the Pioneer Award are welcomed from individuals and teams, regardless of background or vocation, across a breadth of disciplines. We will fund investigators at all career stages, regardless of track record or publishing history.

Proposals to the Pioneer Award are accepted all year round, with no set deadlines. A unique application process, with applicant anonymity, will ensure the best ideas receive funding.

Research Travel Awards are for postdoctoral researchers wishing to visit another lab to learn new skills, foster collaboration or develop their career.
Funding: Support for up to three months and funding up to £6,000 for the travel, accommodation, subsistence and research expenses

Stand Up to Cancer Fellowships are for any clinical or non-clinical postdoctoral researchers looking to accelerate progress in translational cancer research.
Funding: salary of the fellow and associated research running expenses four years, funding to the value of up to US$315,000
