Invitation to Informatics Research Centre (IRC) Launch – September 16

Dear colleagues, Professor Martyn Amos warmly invites you to attend the formal launch of the Informatics Research Centre (IRC), to be held in the Business School on September 16.
The IRC coordinates leading research in computer science and informatics within MMU, and we encourage colleagues from across the University to attend and find out how we might work together in future. The event will include the first showing of our new promotional video, strategic presentations, and plenty of time for discussion.

Transport Challenge Information Day – Save the Date

The next info day on the 2016-2017 Work Programme for Societal Challenge 4: ‘Smart, green and integrated transport’ will take place on 5 November 2015 in Brussels.

​The event is aimed at potential applicants willing to submit proposals to the transport calls included in the new Work Programme for 2016-17. Presentations will cover the content of the new Work Programme and the application procedure, as well as detailed information on the calls. Participants will also have the opportunity to network throughout the day.

More information and the agenda will be available soon, and compulsory registration for the event will open in September.

Horizon 2020 Health Events – Save the Date

Health-NCP-Net 2.0 and Fit for Health 2.0 are jointly organising a partnering event for the next set of Horizon 2020 Health calls. The event will take place on 17 September in Brussels, and will allow health researchers and companies to discuss project ideas and identify potential partners. There will also be the opportunity to ask Commission officials for advice. Further details and information on how to register will be available from mid-July on the Fit for Health website.

Info Day – Societal Challenge 3 ‘Secure, Clean and Efficient Energy’ 2016-17 Work Programme

On 14 and 15 September 2015 the European Commission is running an Information Day on the Horizon 2020 Societal Challenge 3 ‘Secure, Clean and Efficient Energy’ 2016-17 Work Programme. The event is aimed at potential applicants to the upcoming calls and will be held in Brussels. The 2016-2017 Societal Challenge 3 Work Programme will be presented on 14 September and more in-depth sessions on particular calls will be held on 15 September, including a dedicated session on EURATOM.

Attendance at the event is free of charge, but registration is mandatory and can be done through the European Commission website

Registration for Aerodays 2015 Now Open

Aerodays is a European flagship event bringing together over 1000 attendees from the world of Aeronautics and Air Transport research. This prestigious event will provide a unique opportunity to share the results of collaborative research, showcase innovations, discuss policy and developments for work funded through the European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, and takes us forward to Horizon 2020 and beyond.

Aerodays 2015 will take place in London from 20 until 23 October 2015. Interested parties can now register for the conference on the Aerodays 2015 website. Early bird rates available for all booking made by Friday 14 August.

H2020 Event: CAPS2015

The second international event on Collective Awareness Platforms for Sustainability and Social Innovation

Logo-caps-2015-logo-no-back-300x207Organised by the European Commission, CAPS2015 is a two-day event on Collective Awareness Platforms for Sustainability and Social Innovation (CAPS). This year’s event will take place in Brussels on 7-8 July 2015 on the theme of ‘Networked Social Responsibility’. The event will start with a conference in the morning of 7 July at the European Commission, and continue in the afternoon and the following day with the CAPS2015 OFF Programme at La Tricoterie, Brussels.

Registration for the event is free but pre-registration on the CAPS2015 website is compulsory.

British Science Association

MMU hosts the British Science Association Science Communication Conference on June 18-19. The programme is very exciting, and several of our staff are involved in delivering sessions. If you want to register, as a member of MMU staff, you can register at a discounted rate (the early bird rate). Please contact if you have any questions.

The Science Communication Conference is a rare oppurtunity to meet with the different communities within science communication! This year the focus will be on collaborating to come up with solutions and actions to address the big challenges facing the sector.

There are many different events, including a keynote from Jess Thom and a panel debate on whether scientists should be opinion-formers.

There will also be their new challenge sessions – investigate five common problems in the world of science communication and generate strategies to overcome these key issues.
